Potato Pasties

Total Time: 40 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening or 1/2 cup lard or 1/2 cup bacon drippings
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1/2 lb raw lamb or 1/2 lb beef

Recipe

  • 1 with the first 4 ingredients make as for pie dough, adding just enough cold water to make it easy to roll out.
  • 2 roll out pieces of dough 1/8 inch thick, the size of a dinner plate.
  • 3 thinly slice peeled potatoes and cover 1/2 of the pastry circles.
  • 4 add meat and onions.
  • 5 sprinkle with salt and pepper, plus any other spices you like, then fold over crust and seal edges with a fork.
  • 6 pierce top with fork for venting.
  • 7 bake at 350 degf until golden brown.
  • 8 serve hot.
