French Pastry Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 3 egg whites, beaten stiff
  • powdered sugar, for topping

Recipe

  • 1 dissolve cocoa into hot water; let cool while you prepare other ingredients.
  • 2 cream butter and sugar well.
  • 3 add flour, sour cream, baking soda, salt and vanilla.
  • 4 add cocoa mixture.
  • 5 fold in egg whites.
  • 6 pour into greased 9x13 pan.
  • 7 bake at 350° dor 15 minutes.
  • 8 lower oven to 325° nd bake for an additional 20 minutes or until tests clean.
  • 9 when cool, sprinkle generously with powdered sugar.
