Star Spangled Mousse Pie

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate morsel
  • 1 (9 inch) pastry shells, baked
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips, divided
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped
  • 1 quart fresh strawberries, halved
  • 1/2 pint fresh blueberries
  • 1/2 teaspoon shortening

Recipe

  • 1 place chocolate morsels in a small microwave-safe bowl. microwave on high for 20 seconds. microwave at additional 10-second intervals, until smooth when stirred.
  • 2 spread melted chocolate evenly in bottom of pastry shell; set aside.
  • 3 place 1 cup morsels and milk in a small microwave-safe bowl. microwave on medium-high for 1 minute. microwave at additional 10-second intervals, until smooth when stirred.
  • 4 cool 5 minutes.
  • 5 beat cream cheese and sugar in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  • 6 beat in orange peel and melted morsels. fold in whipped cream. spread into crust.
  • 7 arrange strawberry halves and blueberries on top of pie.
  • 8 place shortening and remaining morsels in a small, heavy duty plastic bag. microwave on medium-high for 20 seconds; knead bag to mix.
  • 9 microwave at additional 10-second intervals, kneading until smooth.
  • 10 cut a very small hole in corner of bag; squeeze to drizzle over pie.
  • 11 refrigerate for at least 1 hour. store in refrigerator.
