Shoo Fly Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark molasses
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 9" pastry shell

Recipe

  • 1 dissolve soda in hot water; add molasses and egg.
  • 2 combine sugar and flour and rub in the shortening to make crumbs.
  • 3 pour one-third of the liquid into an unbaked pie crust. add one-third of the crumb mixture. continue alternate layers, putting crumbs on top.
  • 4 bake at 375: for approximately 35 minutes.
